Our conditions and layers

We are in a period that is very supportive of confronting our conditioned behavior patterns and unlocking and reshaping them with the tool of awareness.

We are in times very much in favor of confronting our conditioned patterns and unlocking and transforming them through the tools of consciousness.

Just think of how much we have an embedded belief system by which we run our lives, respond to the influences that affect us and make decisions day in and day out.

And then maybe someone or a situation comes along that points out that it could be different, that it could work differently, even for us. When there is already an openness to that within us.

That for example being a good girl doesn’t only result from being unconditionally obedient, not expressing your own needs and being praised for it. This little girl then becomes an adult (?) woman, lover, mother, who pushes her own needs to the side, who is performance-oriented, living with inner tension, and who then doesn’t understand what she has become and why she feels exhausted.

I could also bring the example of our belief systems about money and material abundance, that abundance can only be achieved through hard work, that a certain standard of living cannot be exceeded by everyone, etc.

Fortunately, everything can be rewritten, but the first step is always to face up to why we are stuck in certain habits and situations, and what we see is not always pleasant. It’s good to have an external support system to follow us through till we can transform our learning experience into an inner strength.

Because once we have real commitment to embark on the path of inner work, self development, we hardly ever turn back and things to be worked on come up to the surface one after the other, then we break down our conditions layer by layer, reaching ever newer depths or heights.

I like to compare this process to the peeling of an onion. It’s always the top layer that’s the hardest to peel off, the hardest layer that actually protects the innermost parts of the onion.

Our belief systems used to protect us too, they kept us safe, they kept us in a framework.

Just as the layers of the onion become easier and easier to peel away until we get to the innermost part, so we can expand the framework of our lives the deeper we arrive into ourselves.

Then we can also notice that our destiny is not the result of some external force, nor are we victims of circumstances or the behavior of others, but that we always have the choice to do something differently if the pattern we have been operating in has not resulted in the life we want to live.

And when we do, an endless array of possibilities begins to open up for us, we just need to notice the messages, the clues, the synchronicities hidden in the everyday life.
